Spring Planting Season is Here — What’s Growing at Farmsustaina

Fresh cucumbers and swiss chard harvested at Farmsustaina organic urban farm in Cary NC

Spring is here, and so is one of the most exciting times of year on the farm. The soil is warming, the days are stretching longer, and right now at Farmsustaina we’re laying the groundwork for our most abundant growing season yet.

What we’re planting this spring

Our spring lineup includes Swiss chard, green beans, cucumbers, summer squash, and cherry tomatoes. For our CSA subscribers, expect these additions in your boxes soon. We’re also trialing a lemon cucumber and a heirloom Brandywine tomato this year — so there may be fun surprises ahead!

Soil first — always

Everything we do at Farmsustaina starts with soil health. Before any seeds go in, we amend our beds with organic compost, check pH, and ensure the microbial life underground is thriving. Healthy soil means healthy plants — and healthy plants mean more nutritious food on your table. We never use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Want to try these principles at home? See our Zone 8a organic growing guide.

Visit us at the farm stand

As the spring harvest begins rolling in, we’ll have fresh produce at our farm stand at Good Hope Farm in Cary, NC. Check our Facebook page for weekly updates on what’s available and stand hours.
